CHEP Provides Logistics Improvements To Excellence Industries

ATLANTA – June 18, 2013CHEP, a leading provider of managed pallet pooling solutions, today announced a new contract for shipping platform solutions with Excellence Industries, a national leader in commercial refrigeration for the foodservice industry. Excellence Industries sells its branded refrigeration units from facilities in Florida, Ohio, Nevada and Tennessee to supermarket chains, club stores, foodservice operators and food companies across North America.

Excellence Industries deployed CHEP pallet pooling solutions to enhance its reverse logistics processes by reusing the CHEP pallets it receives from customers sending units for repair or decommissioning. The new process benefits Excellence’s customers who are in the CHEP network as well; customers can save money by shipping units to Excellence facilities on CHEP pallets.

At the same time, Excellence Industries reduces its carbon footprint by reusing CHEP pallets for its extensive supply chain needs. Based on third-party life-cycle inventory analysis findings, through its use of the CHEP pooling system as compared to alternate pallets, each year Excellence Industries is reducing solid waste generation by more than 8,400 pounds and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions by about 6,400 pounds. The company is also saving more than 180 million BTUs of energy.*

“The use of CHEP by Excellence Industries validates pallet pooling as a best practice for reverse logistics business applications,” said Daniel Walsh, Vice President, Sales & Commercial Strategy, CHEP. “By working with its customers to integrate CHEP into its product handling systems, Excellence Industries is increasing efficiency throughout the supply chain and reducing its impact on the environment.”

Dell Dahl, President of Excellence Industries, states, “The move to using CHEP solutions gives us an enterprise answer to our transport platform challenges by enabling us to use the same pallets we receive for our outbound shipments. We see savings from having CHEP as our supply chain partner by not having to purchase, sort, repair and store pallets, and our customers get pallets back that they are already using.”

*Savings based on Life-Cycle Inventory Analysis of CHEP USA pallet pooling program conducted by Franklin Associates. The calculation is based on Franklin Associates, “Solid Waste Analysis And Life Cycle Inventory Of Pallet Systems.”
